NC Marine Fisheries has a long history of license compliance issues...  Let's take a look circa 1997-98 --

Marine Fisheries strips CRFL Funds to "Defend" the Commercial Striped Bass quota.

I'm just glad you're shining a light on this crflgate mess; otherwise, it would be same-old, same-old.

Regarding yesterday's post on CS facebook page concerning the sale of West Bay landing craft:

I hope the $250,000 crfl money approved for repairs was NOT spent on any work before someone decided to sell the vessel.

If the money has been spent, then I hope proceeds from the sale will replace that quarter-million dollars removed from the crfl bank account.

Regarding the above letter from MFC Chairman Corbett to the State Treasurer to release crfl funds for projects: business as usual, unfortunately.

Beatty -  A bit of good news for DMF.

The NC General Assembly is NOT permitted to direct the agency on how it disposes assets or purchases its assets relative to CRFL Funds.

In short, USFWS is clear, any direction by the NCGA to direct the agency do X with license funds is a "Loss of Control" and violates 50 CFR 80.

Note the date of this letter and its content...

Then refer back to the previous post and the March 3, 2017 letter to Dale Falwell requesting he release the CRFL funds...

Beatty - Perhaps they will explain why they directed Dale Falwell to cut the CRFL checks on March 3nd, just one day after they stamped USFWS letter of Non-Compliance "Finding" received on March 2nd?

Not good...  Placing millions at risk...

Upcoming MFC meeting May 17, 18.

Wonder if the MF Commissioners will go into a closed door session for an update on this mess......

I hope the issue is discussed out in the open, in full view of the public, but I'm not making any bets.
