2010-F-005: NCSU, Albemarle/Roanoke Stripers- Mortality Rates & Spawning Population

CRFL Grant Request: $365,108 (YR1 $153,803 / YR2 $121,028 / YR3 $90,277)

Project Title: Assessing mortality, tag reporting rate, and movement patterns of Albemarle Sound-Roanoke River (AR) striped bass using conventional, passive integrated transponder (PIT), and telemetry tagging techniques.

Project Administrator: NCSU, Joseph E. Hightower & Julianne E. Harris

Project Description: This three year study will estimate seasonal and spatial patterns in recreational and commercial fishing mortality rates for striped bass in the Albemarle Sound and Roanoke River and to estimate a natural mortality rate. This study will estimate the portion of the adult Albemarle Sound population that enters the Roanoke and Chowan basin rivers during spawning season to better understand stock dynamics.
